A Brief Biography

William (Bill) Eiffert was born in Oldham England and apart from six months at art school, is completely self taught in both photography and painting.
He has been a lover of the arts all his life from the time he smelled the odour of oil paint and varnish on visits to his local gallery as a small boy, it made a deep and lasting impression.
Only in his thirties did he take up photography, starting with an old Rolliecord twin lens reflex camera with which he learned the basics of photography. This initial venture into photography was short lived, however after the first of a series of five heart attacks, he took up the camera again, this time Digital. Although he would gladly admit, his early work could only be described as ordinary, it wasn't until he came upon the work of early Pictorialist photography, especially the work of Robert Demachy and Leonard Missone, did he find a genre more aligned to his own particular emotions, his photography changed dramatically.
He took up painting very recently, mid 2020, finally taking the plunge into a world he last visited as a boy. Having received no formal training, he relied on YouTube videos and the love he has had for all arts all his life.
Whilst having no one particular favourite artist, he is influenced by all artists although he is currently experimenting with "colour field" type works by artists such as Mark Rothko and Ad Reinhardt.
As well as painting, he has used mixed media as a vehicle for his artistic imaginings.
